These days, Dr. Gail Weingast is probably best known and most highly regarded as one of the best radiology specialists in the country. She has been at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, where she has been for the last 20 years. Currently that facility’s Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging, she has guided the fortunes of that department to its current status as one of the elite medical facilities in the country. However, the career path of Dr. Gail Weingast wasn’t always a straight line and she values every bit of her educational and career journey because it has all contributed to make her the doctor she is today.
That journey began in 1969, when the future Dr. Gail Weingast studied hard and earned a degree in Spanish. Considering that, it was quite obvious that being a doctor wasn’t exactly a lifelong childhood dream. Back in 1969, it wasn’t clear she even wanted a career in medicine at first. Armed with a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish from Jackson College at Tufts University, she attended the Boston University School of Medicine soon after, where she earned her medical degree and officially became Dr. Gail Weingast. That happened in 1976. Following her time in medical school, Dr. Gail Weingast completed a one year pediatrics internship, a two-year residency in pediatrics, another two year residency in the field of radiology, as well as a three year residency and a one year fellowship in the field of ultrasound, all at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, before completing her post-graduate studies as a radiologist from 1983 to 1984 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, also in Denver. Dr. Gail Weingast then went on to work at several other Colorado hospitals for several years, before heading to New York for a time, before he finally landed at her current gig in Connecticut, at Backus Hospital.
